Salsa Sensations is a refrigerated salsa that made its retail premier in September 2010. I recently picked up all three flavors, Mild, Medium and Hot for me and my family to try at home.
First, I checked out the ingredients. To me it’s not real salsa unless there’s cilantro in it and yes, it’s in there. I tried Medium first. There was just a little heat to it. It has the taste of salsa you’d get in a restaurant. The ingredients are finely chopped so it’s not too chunky and because the ingredients are fresh there is still crispness to the vegetables in it. Perfect. I loved it. And only 10 calories a serving. I loved it more.
Next I tried the Hot salsa. It has habanero peppers in it. Wow. If you have a stuffed up nose this is the cure! The heat sneaks up on you and stays with you. It’s hot. I’m not a huge spicy food eater so I could only eat a little bit of it. If you are a spicy food fan this one’s for you. My husband and oldest son ate almost the entire container in one sitting.
I tried the Mild just before I added it to my Taco Casserole recipe (see below for my personal recipe). I didn’t notice any significant heat to it at which made it perfect for this dish. My two and five year old would not have eaten it otherwise. I would recommend the Mild salsa as an ingredient for flavor rather than as a stand alone condiment. This is a salsa for beginners.
Of all three flavors the Medium is definitely my favorite. The only thing I didn’t like about Salsa Sensations Salsa is that it’s hard to find! After looking in every refrigerated area of Walmart and my guarantee that it WAS there, my husband finally found it in the dairy section next to the yogurt on the highest shelf. It’s worth looking for though and given the choice over a jarred salsa this is hands down my choice. Salsa Sensations is fresh, flavorful and for just $1.98 a great value too.
