Cyber Monday Shopping Safety
Cyber Monday is coming! Cyber Monday is the online equivalent of Black Friday at brick and mortar stores.
At least 42% of you will purchase at least one gift online this year and why not? You don't have to brave the cold and crowds. You will however have to be mindful of online shopping safety.
Here are a few tips to help you protect your assets and identity when shopping online.
1) Look for HTTPS in the URL and a padlock symbol in the lower left hand of your browser window. The padlock and "S" in the URL mean you are shopping on a secure site.
2) Make sure your security software is up to date before you start your shopping.
3) Make copies of confirmation pages when ordering and save confirmation e-mails.
4) Make passwords unique. Don't use the same password for every site. Also, a good password has at least 6 characters and includes at least one number or symbol. Use a password organizer for keeping a written record of your passwords.
5) Employ the use of some additional software tools.
You can get a free virus and URL scanning tool here that ensures you are not clicking on an infected website link.
Finally, CyberMonday.com collects the best deals from over 600 retail outlets. The site offers you the ability to select only those retailers offering free shipping and also has special offers, a "Deal of the Week", and coupons. Beginning now through November 30, 2009 CyberMonday is giving away $250.00 in gift cards. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook to find out how you can win.
